I’ll bet you dreamed about the bat because of D.G.’s story about the bat trying to sneak in with the mammals and the birds. I had a dream about small children bothering me while I was in a bathroom stall and when I woke up I decided to write a novella about a bathroom.

I don’t think so. I don’t remember exactly, but I think the “family” who populated the reunion was not our actual family. For example, the woman who provided the shotgun was someone I saw at a reading last night, and I think she was supposed to be a relative. And one of the zombies barely looked human, even before he was a zombie. Who knows.

Hey, I remember for some reason you telling me about a horrific dream you once had about cutting your mom in half with a chainsaw. Its funny the little things you remember over the years. Another good memory is us walking across the South Park bridge like John and John of TMBG – the two of us following each other closely taking long strides and exaggerated arm swings.

I am so very sorry that your reading was interrupted by a salesperson, of all things. And I’m not certain what it is that prompts people to a) split hairs and b) offer rude commentary on your life and studies without any invitation to do so.

If it makes you feel better, my new insurance person here in Wyoming kindly informed me that no teacher should ever have tenure or job security. Because teachers are just mean people who subject innocent children to their petty rules and tirades.

I think to some degree people care because of Oprah. She has a sickening way of making people care about obscure things they know nothing about. The issue of what may or may not constitute nonfiction probably rose out of the conflict with her book club.

More importantly, I’d like to know what the bars are like down there that you’re actually able to read in one.
