As far as I’m concerned, Microsoft is a sadistic company. I’ve just realized I’ve been sending .docx files to everyone I send documents to, and those can only be used if you have Word 2007. It has probably harmed my professional development, as I need to submit things online using electronic documents, and I imagine those recipients have not been getting these things, because of the absurd advent of the .docx file. It’s exactly the sort of thing life is too short to allow for.
I was listening to an installment of This American Life about two daughters from separate families who had been switched at birth. I’ve never really wondered if I was switched at birth with someone from another family. I’m pretty certain it didn’t happen, and I’m glad, because there are some families where you get all of its members in a room and they don’t communicate very much, and I’d hate to be a part of one of those.
Really, what the recipients should do is either update to ‘07 or download a compatibility pack from Microsoft. 2003 was five years ago.

Bobby,
If there was a switch, your parents got the better one.

The converter is free, and probably everybody who receives lots of docs has it. No need to fret that much. You can change the default settings, btw, to make all your documents .doc instead of .docx
